SACRAMENTO — Senator Monique Limón (D-Santa Barbara), Vice Chair of the California Legislative Central Coast Caucus, has been selected to serve as the 53rd President pro Tempore of the California State Senate. Assemblymember Dawn Addis (D-Morro Bay) and Assemblymember Gregg Hart (D-Santa Barbara), the co-chairs of the California Legislative Central Coast Caucus, issued the following statements:




SANTA BARBARA - Senator Monique Limón released the following statement on the violent political attacks in Minnesota.  

"My heart and prayers are with the families of Minnesota Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and Senator John Hoffman who were targeted in an act of political violence. 

When violence such as this begins to take hold we must take a step back and look at where we are headed as a community, as a country, and as a democracy.




"I am appalled that Senator Alex Padilla (D-California) was thrown to the ground and handcuffed at a press conference. As a United States Senator he has the right to ask questions about the health and safety of our residents who are being taken into custody. This isn’t right." - Senator Monique Limón 




SACRAMENTO - Senator Monique Limón released the following statement regarding her election by the Senate Democratic Caucus to serve as the 53rd President pro Tempore of the California State Senate:




(SACRAMENTO) – Every year, each legislator honors one nonprofit as ‘Nonprofit of the Year’ for their exemplary work in the community. This year, Senator Monique Limón has chosen the Westminster Free Clinic & Community Care Center as the 2025 Nonprofit of the Year for Senate District 21. 




(SACRAMENTO) – On Tuesday, legislation by Senator Monique Limón to establish requirements for the approval and restart of oil pipelines in California passed out of the Senate Natural Resources Committee. SB 542 comes in response to community concerns over the restart process of the Sable Offshore Pipeline in Santa Barbara County. 




(SACRAMENTO) – Last week, legislation that would empower California to enforce consumer financial protection laws, authored by Senator Monique Limón and Senator Tim Grayson, passed out of the Senate Banking and Financial Institutions Committee with a vote of 5-2. SB 825 is motivated by changes at the federal level that have made ineffective the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), the independent federal agency tasked with enforcing consumer financial protection laws.




(SACRAMENTO) – On Equal Pay Day and ten years after the passage of the Fair Pay Act, Senator Monique Limón is announcing new legislation to bolster the Fair Pay Act and provide workers with the opportunity to earn their fair share.
