California fast-tracks $80 million to support food banks and SNAP recipients
(SANTA BARBARA) Senate President-Elect Monique Limón released the following statement regarding California's recent decision to fast-track $80 million in state funding to food banks across the state, as SNAP and CalFresh benefits are expected to be delayed starting November 1, 2025.
“The holiday season is historically the busiest time of year for food banks and social services programs, and yet we are now faced with the possibility that our food pantries across the country could see a delay in services in our families' greatest hour of need.
As the government shutdown continues, California is stepping up to close the gaps in funding by fast-tracking $80 million to food banks, ensuring that California families and the elderly don’t go hungry. In addition, the mobilization of the California Guard and California Service Corps will provide our food banks with much-needed help during an already busy season.”
