This morning we woke up to the Alisal Fire burning 6,000 acres in Santa Barbara County. At the time of writing, the fire the Alisal Fire stands at a 0% containment with an estimate of 8,000 acres burning. Evacuation orders and warnings remain in place. Fire can spread quickly, do not hesitate if you are in the path of any of the fires, you will need to evacuate.




As we begin autumn, I think about how fast this year and specifically the month of August flew by. The Legislature has adjourned the 2020-2021 Legislative year, and I am pleased to announce that eleven of my bills are heading to the Governor for his consideration. The Governor has until October 10th to sign, veto or take action on bills. As someone who lost my grandmother to Alzheimer’s Disease, this month is important for me to recognize and increase the awareness of early detection and resources for caregivers who are highly impacted by the disease.



As we continue through the summer months, I have been pleased to be in the district for a couple of weeks attending community events and reconnect with groups while practicing physical distance. The Legislature has passed the Build Back Boldly budget for the fiscal year 2021-22 to combat homelessness, improve broadband access, and strengthen prevention and response efforts to wildfires, all while setting aside a historical reserve of $25.2 billion. As someone who lost my grandmother to Alzheimer’s Disease, this month is important for me to recognize and increase the awareness of early detection and resources for caregivers who are highly impacted by the disease.



The month of June has many special days for us to celebrate and appreciate. To name a few, this month we celebrate Pride Month, Father’s Day, and Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month. As someone who lost my grandmother to Alzheimer’s Disease, this month is important for me to recognize and increase the awareness of early detection and resources for caregivers who are highly impacted by the disease.



As we continue to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic, the legislative year is progressing for the 2021 - 2022  year. We recently received news that the fiscal outlook for the state is much better than originally anticipated. I hope the trend continues as we get closer to adopting the year budget. In addition, below, you will find legislation I am authoring within the areas of consumer protection, health, environment, education and more. Lastly, I am including COVID-19 updates, resources, wild fire updates, and an introduction to Senate District 19’s Woman of the Year.

Last week, the Legislature and the Governor approved a $9.6 Billion COVID-19 emergency stimulus package. The package assists the most in-need communities and households that did not receive any federal government assistance in the previous stimulus.

The rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine is underway in the State of California. The state has collaborated with local partners on a safe and efficient distribution and administration plan to provide a COVID-19 vaccine to everyone that needs or requests it. California is committed to creating a transparent and equitable process to ensure Californians are vaccinated.
