Taco & Taxes
On February 2nd, my office alongside Assemblymember Gregg Hart, and Supervisor Laura Capps will host a free tax preparation event at Santa Barbara City College. Eligible community members are invited to receive free tax filing services, claim the earned income tax credit (if applicable), enjoy free tacos, and learn about community resources. Services are available in both English and Spanish. Appointments can be scheduled online or over the phone (805-965-8591).
Eligibility requirements:
Individuals with income under $67,000
Basic returns only
Appointments required (no walk-ins accepted)
This event is possible thanks to a partnership with United Way’s successful Volunteers Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, along with Golden State Opportunity and Santa Barbara City College.

Disaster Loan Applications
SBA issued an Administrative Disaster Declaration on Jan. 10 for damages to businesses and homes resulting from the Storm and Flooding that occurred Dec. 21-23, 2023. It is important that homeowners, renters or business owners in Ventura County apply for assistance to initiate an SBA application as a result of physical damage by the Physical Damage deadline of March 11, 2024. The Economic Injury Deadline is Oct. 10, 2024.
