Consul Mexico visit 

On February 2, I welcomed the Mexican Consul General of Sacramento, Christian Tonatiuh González, to the Capitol to strengthen our longstanding relationship with the Mexican Government. We discussed a range of topics, including higher education, immigration, and agriculture. This connection boosts the success of our district by supporting fair trade across our borders.

Santa Barbara Education Foundation Teacher Grant Awards

The Santa Barbara Education Foundation celebrated over 100 teachers who received Teacher Grants this year. Each of these educators has demonstrated extraordinary dedication to providing students with experiences that go beyond the classroom.

 

Cabrillo Village Ribbon Cutting

Cabrillo Village Multi-Use Path Ribbon Cutting

The City of Ventura celebrated the grand opening of the new Cabrillo Village Multi-Use Path marking a major milestone in expanding access to local active transportation. Projects like this are a testament to the success of grant programs like the Clean California Grant, which contributed $1 million to make this path a reality.

 

Goleta Public Library Opening

Goleta Public Library Groundbreaking

After more than 50 years of service, the Goleta Valley Library will receive much-needed improvements with a $4.2 million grant funded by the California State Library. This project is projected to be completed by 2027. While the library will be closed during this time, residents may visit the temporary location at 6500 Hollister Avenue, Suite 105, in Goleta.

 

Village Senior Apartments Ribbon Cutting

Village Senior Apartments Groundbreaking

Earlier this month, the City of Buellton held the grand opening of 50 units of new housing that aimed to provide long-term homes for low-income older adults, including formerly unhoused veterans. The Village Senior Apartments was developed through a $6 million investment provided by the state, as well as local funding, ensuring our most vulnerable have permanent housing for the foreseeable future.

CLCCCF Scholarship

California Legislative Central Coast Caucus Foundation Scholarship

The California Legislative Central Coast Caucus Foundation (CLCCCF) is announcing this year’s $4,000 educational scholarship for California Central Coast students from the following counties to apply: Santa Cruz, Monterey, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Ventura. At least one scholarship will be awarded to a student in each county.

SBA Economic Injury Disaster Loan Available in Santa Barbara County

The U.S. Small Business Administration announced that low-interest federal disaster loans are now available to small businesses and nonprofit organizations in California that sustained economic losses caused by the 2025 Late December Storms.

To apply online, visit sba.gov/disaster. Applicants may also call the SBA Customer Service Center at (800) 659-2955 or email disastercustomerservice@sba.gov for more information on SBA disaster assistance. The deadline to apply is November 6, 2026. Additional information for the SBA program is available here.

Join CEC for A Year of Active Hope

The Community Environmental Council is hosting several spring events for the Santa Barbara community to discuss concrete climate solutions and provide hands-on learning to become better climate advocates. These events include seminars, workshops, and film screenings to find new paths forward for climate justice.
