Southern Californiais famous for its mild, sunny climate, but like anywhere else in the world, is susceptible to natural disasters. The U.S. Geological Survey reports that Californiaexperiences about 10,000earthquakes each year. Most of these are too small to be felt, but a large earthquake will produce many more aftershocks of all magnitudes for many months. Two major fault lines exist in the 21st Senate District alone - the Raymond fault and Sierra Madre fault zones.
