90 Day Moratorium on Foreclosures
On June 15, 2009, California extended the home foreclosure process by 90 days except when a loan servicer obtains an exemption. In order to obtain an exemption, the mortgage servicer must demonstrate to the State that they offer a comprehensive loan modification program to the borrower. The Department of Corporations has posted answers to frequently asked questions about the extension here.

AvoidScam Alert! No Fee Necessary for Property Value Reduction. The Los Angeles County Assessor's Office warns that some private companies are sending mailings to property owners offering their services to pursue a reduction in property taxes. These companies may charge hundreds of dollars to file for a reduction in value on behalf of the property owner. Solicitations from private companies offering to pursue a reduction in property taxes must clearly indicate that they are NOT a government agency and that their services are NOT approved or endorsed by any government agency. Failure to provide such notice is a violation of California law. More information at Los Angeles County Assessor's Office
