- Centers for Disease Control and Prevention - Healthy People Healthy People provides science-based, 10-year national objectives for promoting health and preventing disease.
- Centers for Disease Control and Prevention - Childhool Overweight and Obesity Obesity is a serious health concern for children and adolescents.
- National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion - Healthy Youth Childhood obesity has more than tripled in the past 30 years. The prevalence of obesity among children aged 6 to 11 years increased from 6.5% in 1980 to 19.6% in 2008.
- The Obesity Society - Childhood Overweight In the past 30 years, the occurrence of overweight in children has doubled and it is now estimated that one in five children in the US is overweight.
- Medline Plus - Obesity in Children Obesity means having too much body fat. It is different from being overweight, which means weighing too much. Both terms mean that a person's weight is greater than what is considered healthy for his or her height.
